Magecraft – Whenever you cast or copy an instant or sorcery spell, return target nonlegendary creature card from your graveyard to your hand. WxSDgD6rWb- DeQuan Watson March 30, 2021 Check out my video where I discuss card and some creepy things going on at Strixhaven University.

Mardu isn't a traditional Spellslinger color combo, so I'm a bit lost in that department. Thanks to WotC for the exclusive free preview card. I'm leaning toward a removal-heavy list to keep my opponents at bay while I chip them down for the win, but I'm just not sure what the answer is there. The biggest question mark for me right now is what spells to sling in the deck. ] is probably a good idea to throw in there too.Īnd last but, certainly not least, run ]. There's also going to be a lot of cards leaving your graveyard, so I recommend ] and ] to net you some extra bodies just by doing what you want to do anyway! I'm looking at maybe running ] to double down on ETBs and LTBs, but I'm worried he might mess with the rhythm of the deck a bit, so YMMV if you use him.Ĭard draw can be tough in these colors, but with multiple cards like Village Rites, ], and ], I think you should be okay. There will be lots of ETBs too, so throw an ] in there! Like I said earlier though, death triggers that produce tokens are our real friends, so I recommend ], ], ], and ]. If your budget can handle it, then throw in ] to really get crazy.Īnd on the token producer front, cheap critters like ] and ] that produce a token when they die are excellent in this deck, with a special standout being ], who nets you 3 bodies for 2 mana.Īlso, passive token generators like ] and ] are nice, but with Extus wanting recursion, it may be better to stick with these in lower numbers if you decide to use them at all. Obviously you want Aristocrat payoffs like ] and its ilk, but to work alongside them, I recommend creatures like ] and ] to generate more sacrifice fodder while you sling the spells you're already going to be swinging.

] is the best of them all in terms of just bonkers levels value with Extus, plus it can outright win you the game if with the right board state (or if you slap it on an ] and copy it over and over, but what card wouldn't win you the game on the scepter?)Įvoke creatures like ], ], and ] are really fun in this deck because they're cheap, recursive removal with Extus, just add a magecraft trigger. They practically pay for themselves by letting you use the mana you saved to recast whatever chump you sac'd, and they can pull a lot of weight with the right Aristocrats setup. If you're looking to stay on theme, get sac and magecraft triggers, and stay low budget, then I highly recommend cards with additional sacrifice costs like ] or ]. I'm currently brewing around Extus, so I'll share some thoughts I've had! It’s done pretty well so far, so hopefully you can find some good inspiration.īTW, you’ve likely noticed this, but Extus is GREAT with anything that sacs or discards cards as an additional cost since his magecraft trigger gets you whatever you sac/discard right back to hand (as long as it’s nonlegendary creatures of course).Īs other people have said, you need a clear goal of focusing on either Extus or the Blood Avatar.
Past three games I’ve played him I’ve won in entirely different ways (one an infinite magecraft loop I didn’t realize I had, one a large aristocrat drain, and one just good ol fashioned commander damage. I like using Awaken the Blood Avatar, and it’s super fun to use ] with it to potentially win soon after, but I prefer the Extus side since he gives you a lot more variety in playing. Not every one is worth running of course, but even the OK ones are valuable in the deck because you can cast the adventure side first to grab back creatures with Extus and play them as creatures to build up a board for aristocrats shenanigans. One way to do this is loading the deck up with adventure creatures. Instead you can play value creatures that you can easily get back once they die through his magecraft trigger. That said, what’s cool about Extus is that you don’t need to load the deck up with traditional aristocrat armies-in-a-can.
Having had an eye on him since he first got spoiled, I do think that aristocrats is a good way to go with it.
